# BOEM offshore wind lease outlines

Outlines of the offshore wind energy leases and grid/export easements issued by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (52 polygons, 5 of them off California). The layer itself carries no status field and still lists the five California leases (OCS-P 0561-0565) after BOEM's 2026 settlements, cancellation and relinquishment, so `status`, `status_source` and `status_date` are the latest event in a hand-maintained, dated event log (sources/boem/wind_lease_status_events.csv: lease issuance, settlement agreements, cancellation, relinquishment, each with its BOEM source document) joined on the lease number, and `status_history` lists every event. Every other lease is `active` as of the layer's last edit.

## Status event log

The source layer has no status field. `status`, `status_source` and `status_date` are the latest event in the hand-maintained, dated event log `sources/boem/wind_lease_status_events.csv` (one row per event, each with its source URL), joined on the exact `LEASE_NUMBER`; `status_history` holds every event of the place as JSON. Places with no event are `active` as of the layer's last edit. The log is the place to record BOEM's changes until the layer catches up.

Native attributes keep the source layer's names; a native name equal to a gazetteer column ignoring case
(`NAME` vs `name`) is suffixed `_src`.
